Date:
Tuesday, 17 June, 2014
Event description:
The "Beauty Contest" is a biannual competition to demonstrate the capabilities of software to reconstruct optical interferometry data. In the last eddition, we participated representing the IAA-CSIC. The goal of the contest was to reconstruct "blind" images from real PIONIER/VLTI data of two evolved stars R Car and VY Cma. Our team was composed by Joel Sanchez, Antxon Alberdi and Rainer Schoedel and we used BSMEM to reconstruct the images. Besides this was our first participation, we won the contest showing our expertise with the field. In the atthaced documents you could see the presentation given by John Monnier in the 2014 SPIE conference, in which we were declared winners, as well as the press release from El Mundo.
